Banninger Wins STEM Award

Collegium Charter School (CCS) has announced that eighth-grader Carley Banninger has won the 2019 Girls Living STEM Award. The award is part of a program called Women Living STEM that is offered through the STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice organization (STEM Learning Ecosystems).

Carley was nominated by Harvey Scribner, her middle school technology teacher. She was a member of Scribner's Computer Skills and Applications class last year and is enrolled in his STEAM - Enrichment (Engineering and Architectural Introduction) class this year. In his nomination, Scribner said Carley demonstrates passion and leadership and is cooperative, kind, empathetic, and thoughtful. Carley was recognized for inspiring those around her through her passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and for looking for opportunities to build her STEM skills and engage in leading and mentoring exchanges. Collegium Middle School principal Ted Sterious said Carley has determination, grit, and a positive attitude.

On Oct. 21, STEM Learning Ecosystems hosted a Women Living STEM recognition event in Cleveland, where Carley was further recognized in event materials and via STEM Learning Ecosystems' social media and website.
