Becker Named Extension Educator

Carly Becker has been appointed by Penn State Extension to serve as a dairy Extension educator in Lancaster County.

Becker recently completed a Master of Science in agriculture from Mississippi State University. Her thesis was titled "Identifying and Mitigating Heat Stress of Grazing Dairy Cattle Using Shade and Sprinklers." As a graduate student, Becker served as assistant herd manager at the university's Bearden Dairy Research Farm. As part of those responsibilities, she was both the parlor manager and calf manager.

Becker earned a Bachelor of Science in animal science from the University of Kentucky. During her time there, she worked on several research teams studying milk quality, precision technologies and dairy cattle behavior. Becker also spent several years in Senegal, West Africa, as an agricultural program volunteer with the Peace Corps.

Becker, who hails from from Independence, Ky., will join the Penn State Dairy Extension Team. The team provides dairy production and business management educational programs for the dairy industry. These programs and information are provided through meetings, webinars and other virtual delivery methods, as well as individual, on-farm assistance.
