Re-Source York board members made a donation to Bell Socialization Services' shelter services on Feb. 18 at the retail nonprofit's Carlisle Avenue store.
Donations to and purchases from either of Re-Source York's locations - the home decor store on Carlisle Avenue by the York Fairgrounds and the home improvement store on East Ninth Avenue in north York - yield proceeds that are shared quarterly with Bell Family Shelter, a program of Bell Socialization Services. The last quarter produced $3,606.
The two nonprofit organizations have been partnered since 2002, with Re-Source York also offering vocational training and job placement services for Bell service users, allowing them to gain real-life experience working in retail. The contributions benefiting Bell Family Shelter help to provide up to 30 days of emergency shelter for homeless York County families.
Keeping usable goods out of the landfill and helping neighbors in need embodies Re-Source York's mission to encourage the community to be environmentally and socially responsible.
Bell Socialization Services provides housing and living skills supports to individuals living with mental illness, people with intellectual disabilities, and families experiencing homelessness. Since 1966, Bell programs have provided an environment of support and empowerment with the goal of helping people throughout the greater York and Hanover area improve their quality of living.
