Wrightsville Hope UMC Plans Annual Spring Fling

Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church (UMC), 404 Hellam St., Wrightsville, will hold its annual Spring Fling event rain or shine on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spring Fling organizers offer vendor spaces for rent to area residents for the rummage sale, which will feature a variety of clothing, shoes, purses and bags, accessories, books, games, puzzles, crafts, and more. Individuals who are interested in renting a space at the rummage sale may call the church office at 717-252-2609. Tables are available to rent for an additional fee.

A plant sale will feature a selection of perennials and annuals, all of which have been carefully grown or gathered and repotted by members of Hope UMC. New for this year will be a selection of birdhouses and other yard and garden decorations.

Food items available for purchase at Spring Fling will include homemade chicken corn soup, walking tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, doughnuts, milkshakes, and other hot and cold beverages. A variety of homemade baked goods and candy will also be for sale.

Organizer Donna Ream noted that proceeds from the event will primarily go toward updating the handicapped accessibility of the Hope UMC building. Any additional funds will support community outreach efforts of the congregation.

Two of the primary ministries of Hope UMC are a community food bank and clothing bank. The food bank is open by appointment only, and interested individuals may call 717-252-2609 between 9 a.m. and noon on Mondays through Wednesdays to inquire about eligibility and schedule an appointment. The clothing bank, Phoebe's Closet, located at 406 Hellam St., Wrightsville, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Donations of clean, gently used clothing are welcome and may be dropped off during open hours or on the building's front porch.

In addition, Hope UMC hosts weekly Scout meetings and offers the Encounter children's program from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays during the school year. Elevate, a program for middle-schoolers, is held at the church from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Pastor Jerry Schmidt noted that the congregation of Hope UMC is joining together with Wrightsville Presbyterian Church to host vacation Bible school from Monday to Friday, June 24 to 28. The theme of the annual children's program will be "To Mars and Beyond."

Hope UMC hosts weekly Sunday worship services from 9 to 10:15 a.m., with Sunday school classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. To learn more, readers may visit https://wrightsvillehope.weebly.com.
