The Elizabethtown Area School District school board meeting scheduled for March 24 was postponed. This decision was made due to the state-ordered school closures and the federal and state guidance recommendations against large gatherings. The school board meeting is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in a modified format.
Changes to this meeting will include discussion and actions by the board of school directors only on essential items necessary to keep district operations running. Public comment will be limited to agenda items the school board will take action on that evening. The school board is temporarily suspending public comment on non-agenda items. The detailed agenda for this rescheduled meeting was posted on March 23 for public viewing. School board members may be permitted to remotely participate in this meeting.
With regard to the modified meeting format, the school board will be considering, at the outset of the meeting, a motion to allow school board members to attend and participate in the meeting remotely through the use of technology. However, the school board president, board secretary, and superintendent of schools will be on location at the high school to conduct and record the meeting.
All other school board members will be permitted to attend and participate in the meeting remotely. This measure is being taken to reduce the number of people at the physical meeting site. In keeping with federal and state recommendations to avoid large gatherings, the number of citizens attending the physical meeting site may be limited.
Whether or not the meeting is held on location or remotely, there will be no discussion or vote on the consolidation of schools or renovations regarding Rheems, Mill Road, and/or East High elementary schools. This subject is tabled until a later date. Any information concerning the school board's potential future discussions of the topic will be announced through established district procedures with the opportunity for public comment.
