Touchdown receptions by Dominic Wallace and Jonathan Carter in the fourth quarter of Pequea Valley's non-league game at Hanover proved to be too little too late as the Braves fell 41-20 on Friday, September 3.
The Braves (0-1) trailed the Nighthawks by a single point in the second quarter following Carter's first touchdown of the game. It was a 31-yard scoring toss from junior Peyton Temple, who finished with 207 passing yards on 17 completions.
Nighthawks (1-1) quarterback Chase Roberts connected with senior split end Breyden Parry for four touchdowns in addition to scoring on a one-yard quarterback keeper.
The Pequea aerial attack was highlighted by Wallace's 94 yards on seven receptions as well as Carter's five catches (2 touchdowns) for 59 yards. In addition, Xavier Padilla caught four balls for 40 yards.
Gaining a 15-6 halftime lead, which included Roberts hitting Parry for 30 yards in the second quarter and adding the two-point conversion himself, the Nighthawks made it 22-6 only to see PV fight back on the 27-yard scoring strike from Temple to Wallace early in the fourth. But with 21 unanswered points, the game was out of reach for Pequea.
The Braves' non-league games scheduled include Kutztown, Jenkintown and Garden Spot - all at home games - before the Braves begin their Lancaster-Lebanon League slate with Elco on October 1.
