This summer, the Center for Creative Exploration (CCE) will offer diverse opportunities for weeklong and multi-day youth art classes on the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design campus, 204 N. Prince St., Lancaster, and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to piece together morning and noon classes along with a selection of intergenerational classes for the whole family.
A mixture of classes and subject matter will be offered in each timeslot, allowing students to curate an experience unique to their interests. The daily schedule allows time for supervised lunches and snack breaks on campus between classes. Class options will begin in early June and run through early August.
A selection of partnered youth camps also offers families an opportunity to experience more of what Lancaster city arts has to offer. From Making to Museum will kick off in the first week in partnership with the Lancaster Museum of Art. This new camp will allow students to mine the permanent collection of Lancaster Museum of Art for inspiration and to learn about museum studies. Ultimate Art Camp with Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen during weeks two and four will return with a crafting lineup of fine art exploration, glassblowing, needle felting, and more.
Apart from foundational classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, this summer will feature several special offerings. Options include Exploring Puerto Rico: Masks and Music for students in grades one to three, Animal and Specimen Drawing for students in grades four to seven, Clay Creations for students in grades one to four, Fundamentals of Photography for youths in grades seven to nine, Urban and Public Art for students in grades seven to nine, and Peacocks Esports Camp for youths in grades seven to 10.
In addition to grade-specific classes, a selection of intergenerational studio classes will welcome students age 8 through adult. These classes meet once a week in the early evenings and offer a unique opportunity for siblings, grandparents, neighbors, parents, and friends who cross generations to create together. Options include Botanical Watercolor, Observational Drawing, Illustration and Cartooning, and Collage Exploration.
