CCWS Sets Virtual Fundraiser

Chester County Women's Services (CCWS), a local nonprofit pregnancy care medical center, will present a virtual fundraising event, themed "Celebration of Life," on Monday, May 2, beginning at 7 p.m.

Following a slideshow that details the programs and services offered by CCWS, the program will include comments by board members and Myriam Ruager, CCWS executive director. The presentation will also feature three client testimonies from those who have benefited from the services offered at CCWS.

The program, which will last approximately one hour, will also feature a special announcement. "We are changing our name. The name change will be presented that night and, after 37 years, we will not be CCWS anymore," said Nicole Crist, CCWS development director. Along with the new name, the agency will also unveil a new logo.

Although the name will change, CCWS' mission statement will remain the same. According to http://www.ccwsmedical.org, the mission of CCWS is "to empower individuals and their families with education, resources, and support to make life-affirming decisions."

People are encouraged to host a watch party at their homes to view the virtual presentation together. "There will be watch parties at people's homes and at churches," Crist noted.

In addition to offering pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds, CCWS offers prenatal vitamins, proof of pregnancy and free nurse consultations throughout the course of the pregnancy. Clients may also receive referrals to organizations offering resources such as homeless prevention and food assistance programs.

Parenting classes are offered, as well as Bible studies and peer counseling. Families can use the points they earn from attending classes to "purchase" parenting essentials from the CCWS Parenting Boutique.

CCWS has been serving county residents as a pregnancy resource center since 1985. It has offices at 1028 E. Lincoln Highway in Coatesville, at 203 S. Walnut St. in Kennett Square and at 139 W. Market St. in West Chester. All CCWS services continue to be offered free of charge in both English and Spanish.
