Charity Sets Virtual 5K

Scholars' Promise International Education Foundation, an online educational institution that provides educational opportunites to international high school students, is offering an alternative way for runners and walkers to complete in a 5K through the "5K Your Way Turkey Trot," which will allow participants to run, walk, bike or even row the kilometers on any day of the week from Sunday, Nov. 24, through Sunday, Dec. 1.

Because the event is a virtual 5K, participants can decide whether they run or walk - indoors or outdoors - and what time of day they participate. Children can also join in the 5K Your Way because they can move at their own pace.

The event is being held to coincide with the Thanksgiving holiday, celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 28. "It was designed for everyone to be able to participate, including seniors, children and the disabled," said Jen Rosenberg, foundation board member. "Participants can do their 5K anywhere, anytime and any way that they want. The idea is to just get moving for a good cause during a week that we all eat too much."

Those who register for the event will be asked to post details about their 5K experience. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative 5K in addition to best times in different age categories.

Proceeds from the registration fees will benefit international scholars who are seeking to earn American high school diplomas online. The mission of Scholars' Promise, a charitable organization, is to provide students around the world the opportunity to earn a world-class education.

Exton resident Dr. Matt Bramucci, the foundation's executive director, has been teaching online for the past several years for an educational company. He explained that the company partners with local high schools and delivers their academic programs online to students who cannot afford to come to America to study. The students pay tuition, and a portion of the tuition is given to the partner schools.

The educational company formed the nonprofit foundation. "We created the charity so we can accept charitable donations for scholarships for students to study online with us," Bramucci explained.
