Chautauqua Plans Online Programs

Pennsylvania Chautauqua has announced it will offer a variety of programs through Zoom. Due to COVID-19, the organization will not host any in-person summer programs in July. Unless otherwise noted, programs will begin at 10 a.m.

LVC Book Reviews will be offered on Tuesdays. The dates, books and reviewers are as follows: July 7, "Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War II" by Liza Mundy, reviewed by Kevin Pry; July 14, "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut, reviewed by Andrew Owen; July 21, "The Angel and the Assassin: The Tiny Brain Cell That Changed the Course of Medicine" by Donna Jackson Nakazawa, reviewed by Stacy Goodman; July 28, "The Rationing" by Charles Wheelan, reviewed by Lori Thomas; Aug. 4, "Irony and Outrage: The Polarized Landscape of Rage, Fear, and Laughter in the United States" by Dannagal Goldthwaite Young, reviewed by Diane Johnson; and Aug. 11, "Morphing Intelligence: From IQ Measurement to Artificial Brains" by Catherine Malabou, reviewed by Jeff Robbins.

Janice Balmer will present Eight Dimensions of Health on Fridays, July 17, July 24, July 31, Aug. 14, Aug. 21, and Aug. 28.

Jesse Waters will present Great American Poets on select Fridays. The programs will focus on Robert Frost on July 3 and Carl Sandburg on Aug. 7.

The TED Circle topic on Friday, July 10, will be "What obligation do social media companies have to the greater good?"

Mount Gretna School of Art Lectures will be presented on Wednesdays. The dates, topics, and presenters will be the following: July 1, "Structure and Light: Drawing for Painting" with Ty Smith; July 8, "Fresh Air Club" with Lynette Lombard; July 15, "Keith, Jasper, Joan, and Me" with Jessica Tam; July 22, "Painting and Drawing the Landscape Through Experience, Memory, and Imagination" with Aaron Lubrick; and July 29, "Painting With Doubt" with Aubrey Leventhal.

Gloria Mast Art Lectures will be presented on Wednesdays, Aug. 5 to 19.

Additional programs, slated for Thursdays, will include "Sacred Spaces" with Anne Thayer on July 2; "Confronting the Holocaust: A Teacher's Experience Visiting Holocaust Sites in Poland" with David Dunsavage on July 16; "Via Dolorosa: A Specious Tradition" with Dr. William Stotler on July 23; and "'Old' Christianity for a New Age: Recovering the Faith of Jesus" with Dr. Darrell Woomer on Aug. 20.

Susan Asbury will present "Toys With PA Roots" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21.
