Rock Ford Plantation, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, will hold a children's event, "It's Tea Time," on Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. It will take place rain or shine in the Rock Ford barn and mansion. In the event of rain, guests are asked to bring umbrellas, as they will be walking from the barn to the mansion.
A living historian portraying Katherine Hand, known by her husband, Revolutionary War Gen. Edward Hand, as "Kitty," will welcome guests to the afternoon tea. Kitty was the mistress of Rock Ford Plantation and hosted many teas for family and friends.
The upcoming event will feature desserts, tea tasting, and etiquette fun such as the Language of the Fan. Guests are encouraged to wear fancy accessories such as gloves, hats, and jewelry. After the tea, guests will be led on a short tour of the Rock Ford mansion to find the hidden tea cups in the mansion's rooms.
The event is recommended for children age 5 and up and their family members, and children must be accompanied by at least one responsible adult. Built in 1794, Rock Ford Plantation was the home of Edward Hand and his family. Hand served as adjutant general to George Washington during the Revolutionary War. The historic property is open for tours on Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from April to October. It is operated by the nonprofit Rock Ford Foundation.
