Church Posts Support Programs

Hempfield United Methodist Church (HUMC), 3050 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, has announced a cancer support group and a ministry focused on emotional healing and soul restoration. Both programs will be facilitated by Brenda Coffin, HUMC's minister of spiritual care and counseling.

Living With Cancer, a lunchtime support group, will meet every other Wednesday from March 13 to May 22 from noon to 1:15 p.m. in HUMC's Prayer Room. Coffin is a cancer survivor, cancer coach and counselor. The group is geared toward people currently undergoing cancer treatment, but it is also open to cancer survivors and members of the public attending in a supportive role as a cancer caregiver or friend.

The informal gatherings, which will be educational, spiritual and supportive in nature, will explore the mind, body, spiritual and emotional aspects of facing and living with cancer. Personal testimonies from cancer survivors and group discussions will be woven into the program.

HUMC will also host Daughters of the King and Sons of the King, monthly emotional healing, soul restoration and prayer gatherings where men and women meet at separate times. The one-hour spring sessions, which will begin on Sunday, March 10, are designed for those in need of wholeness. They are free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

Sessions for women will be held the second Sunday of each month from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Sessions for men will take place on the fourth Sunday of each month from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. All sessions will meet in the HUMC Prayer Room.

Each session will include a brief learning component based on finding one's identity as a child of Christ. Other concepts presented during the sessions will include worthiness over worthlessness, forgiveness, self-love and core human emotional needs. Teachings will focus on deep soul work, and a spiritual component will center on restoration through Christ. There will be healing prayer and a brief time for sharing during each session.
