ValleyView Alliance Church, 200 Alliance Ave., Hellam, will hold a Thai Fest from Friday to Sunday, March 8 to 10. The event is being held in conjunction with a visit from special guests Ed and Sue Danneker, missionaries from Thailand who are currently on home assignment.
The weekend will begin on March 8 with a Thai tea with the Dannekers at the church at 6:30 p.m. The tea will be followed by dinner at a Thai restaurant in the York area. Participants will have the opportunity to try Thai cuisine, interact with the Dannekers and experience Thai culture as if they were going out for dinner in Bangkok, Thailand. Attendees will be responsible for their own dinner, which will be served Thai (family) style.
On Saturday, March 9, Ed will speak at a men's breakfast at 8 a.m. at the church. A freewill offering will be received. On March 10, the Dannekers will share during the 9 a.m. class hour to the combined classes of children, youths, and adults. They will then be the guest speakers for children's and morning messages during the 10:15 a.m. worship service.
To conclude their visit, they will share with the Surge Student Ministry for sixth through 12th grades on March 10 at 6 p.m. They will share how God uses students on short-term trips overseas.
Ed and Sue Danneker have served in Thailand since 1992. During this time, they have partnered with Thai churches to begin three new congregations in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Of the more than 10 million people in that region, the Dannekers report that only about one half of 1 percent are practicing Christians. The Dannekers have Pennsylvania roots and stay in the York area when they are on home assignment. They serve with the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
