Civil War Encampment Planned

The Ma and Pa Railroad Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks, 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, will again host a Civil War encampment, complete with soldiers drilling, loading and firing weapons, and displaying items they carried. More than a dozen re-enactors will be on hand on Sunday, July 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. to answer questions while giving attendees a better understanding of the challenges and sacrifices soldiers faced.

Richard Anderson, corporal with 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers, Company C, and also superintendent of the Ma and Pa Railroad Historical Society, is organizing the event. New this year will a food display. If time permits, a trial of a female serving in the ranks will demonstrate the challenges women had serving in the armed forces in the 1860s.

Visitors can also explore the 1899 A.M. Grove General Store, mill and grain elevator, where they will be welcomed by costumed docents. Hourly motorcar train rides through the Muddy Creek Valley will be offered at set fees for adults and children. The last train will depart 45 minutes before closing.
