Civil War Round Table Will Meet

The Harrisburg Civil War Round Table will meet on Friday, Sept. 20, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill. Lorien Foote will discuss retaliation in the Civil War.

Every military campaign of the Civil War included a ritual of retaliation, which caused the Union and the Confederacy to alter their conduct and change policies. Foote's talk will explore how the ritual worked in the Trans-Mississippi in ways that shaped the conflict in every theater.

Foote is the Patricia and Bookman Peters professor of history at Texas A&M University. She is the author of four books on the Civil War and numerous articles and essays. Her digital humanities project, which maps the escape and movement of 3,000 federal prisoners of war, can be viewed at http://ehistory.org/projects/fugitive-federals.html.
