Civitas Lancaster and Blessings of Hope will hold the 68th annual Civitas Lancaster Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Long's Park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Hundreds of volunteers will prepare more than 15,000 complete chicken dinners.
Civitas Lancaster, a nonprofit organization, is the successor to the Sertoma Club of Lancaster.
New this year is an area called Civitas Court, where attendees will find additional food, entertainment, and activities. Beer and wine will be available from Wacker Brewing Company and Grandview Vineyard.
Drive-through lanes will offer another option of purchasing complete chicken dinners to take home. The number of drive-through lines has been doubled this year.
Discounted tickets can be purchased at http://www.civitaslancaster.org/fundraising-events.html.
All proceeds raised by the event will be reinvested in the Lancaster community and will help with improvements to Long's Park and the upkeep of the playgrounds and facilities for people who are blind and those with disabilities. Proceeds will also help to fund the local summer kids' programs for at-risk youths and support other local nonprofit organizations.
This event has recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest one-day chicken barbecue event in the world.
