Clinic Will Host 5K Race

The Clinic for Special Children, 535 Bunker Hill Road, Strasburg, a nonprofit medical home for children and adults with rare genetic diseases, will host its second annual 5K race on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9 a.m. The race will begin and end at the clinic.

All proceeds from the event will support the mission of the clinic. Whoopie pie medals will be awarded to the first, second, and third female and male runners in various age groups.

The 3.1-mile course will take runners, joggers, and walkers along country roads, winding through Lancaster County farmland. Participants will have full use of the closed road as they venture past vineyards, see an Amish schoolhouse, and pass by acres of Amish farms. There will be free runners' snacks, breakfast items for sale, a silent auction, a bake sale, a free children's fun run, and activities for children.

Interested participants can register at http://www.ClinicforSpecialChildren.org/events/5k, or they may call the clinic at 717-687-9407 to be mailed registration forms. A registration fee has been set for those who register by Monday, Sept. 2, with a higher fee afterward, including race day. Registration includes a goodie bag and a T-shirt while supplies last.

Pre-race packet pickup will be on Friday, Sept. 20, between 5 and 7 p.m. at the clinic. The event will be held rain or shine. To register, volunteer, or become an event sponsor, readers may visit the website or call the clinic.
