The Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will offer its annual Lantern Tours from Monday, Dec. 27, through Thursday, Dec. 30. Tours will leave the Visitor Center every 15 minutes, starting at 6:15 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. The audience for each tour will be limited to 15 people.
Masks will be worn by all the volunteers and staff involved in the program. Masks are strongly encouraged among guests to help ensure everyone's safety.
In the early years of the Ephrata Cloister, some community members refused to pay their taxes, which landed several members in jail. This is the story awaiting visitors to the Lantern Tours. Along the way, guests will have opportunities to interact with history as they carry out a search for the leader of those who refuse to pay their taxes.
Advance tickets are required and can be purchased by calling the Historic Ephrata Cloister at 717-733-6600. Admission is discounted for seniors age 65 and older and for children ages 3 to 17. Children under age 3 may attend for fee.
