College Plans Lecture Events

For many years, the Department of Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine has sponsored First Fridays. These hourlong monthly events have been presentations on a variety of topics, from race and identity to how autism can be expressed through art.

Beginning in the fall, First Fridays will become Humanities Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds are the name used for speaking events hosted by clinical and basic science departments at the College of Medicine. By changing the name to Humanities Grand Rounds, the Department of Humanities is embracing this venerable medical school tradition.

The Department of Humanities expects to host speakers quarterly, rather than monthly. Humanities Grand Rounds presentations will be topical, scholarly, and of general interest, and they will highlight the contribution of the humanities to medicine and health.

All Humanities Grand Rounds will be open to the public. For more information, readers may contact the Department of Humanities at 717-531-8779.
