The theater program at York College of Pennsylvania will present the play "Everybody" at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday, Nov. 21, through Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Perko Black Box Theatre at the college, 441 Country Club Road, York.
Directed by Rebecca Etzine and written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, the play will showcase the struggles of the character named Everybody as they face death and desperately search for someone or something to accompany them to the great unknown.
All actors and designers are enrolled in the Performance in Practice course taught by Etzine, a professional director from Baltimore. The character of Everybody is played by Theo Muhammad, a junior theater major from Forestville, Md. The Usher, played by senior theater major Charity Stump of York, and Death, played by junior theater major Kayla Manigault from Baltimore, watch over Everybody as they make their journey in this modern depiction of facing death. Some parts in the play are decided by lottery each night in front of the audience as the randomness of life and death is explored.
"Everybody" is an adaptation of a famous medieval theater script, "Everyman." As many plays did at that time, its purpose was to try and make sense of the unknowable.
Tickets are free, but reservations are recommended as seating is limited. Reservations are available at http://www.ycp.edu/theatre or by calling the box office at 717-600-3868.
