Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Flea Market

A Lancaster Country Craft, Vintage and Flea Market will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sadsbury Friends Meeting in Gap.

The family-friendly outdoor event will feature crafters, vintage antique and collectibles and flea market vendors. There will also be a free scavenger hunt for children with prizes. Food will be available to purchase.

Gardening Program

The community is invited to garden with Master Gardener Dave Jones and discuss gardening with him and other gardeners on Saturday, April 27 (and every Saturday), from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Parkesburg Library garden, located behind the library, 105 West St., Parkesburg.

Ten raised beds are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Gardeners are invited to grow their own vegetables, herbs and flowers with the help of an expert. For more information, contact the Parkesburg Library at 610-857-5165 or visit http://www.parkesburglibrary.org.

Karate Demonstration, Bake Sale

The Lancaster County Shotokan Karate Club will present a free karate demonstration at the Parkesburg Free Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg, on Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. Attendees will learn the about benefits of learning karate. All are welcome to attend.

The library is also having a book and bake sale on April 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Concert

The Friends Folk Club will kick off its 33rd season with a rare area performance by The Ronstadt Brothers, the nephews of singer Linda Ronstadt, on Saturday, April 27, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 116 Lancaster Pike Oxford. Doors will open at 7 p.m.; the concert will start at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items that will be given to area food cupboards. Tickets will be available at the door. Children age 12 and under will be admitted for free. Proceeds will benefit the church.

A food truck will be on-site at 5:30 p.m., so attendees can enjoy dinner before the concert.

Senior Fellowship

The Over 60's Senior Fellowship will meet on Tuesday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Latta Memorial Presbyterian Church, 23 Green St., Christiana. The April gathering will feature a program from the Speakers' Bureau of Lancaster County. Liz Fry will share tips and tricks on the "Dilemma of Downsizing." Attendees will learn about ways to downsize and to eliminate clutter.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, April 30, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.

GriefShare

GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a loved one, will meet on Tuesday, April 30 (and every Tuesday through May 14), from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. The meetings are facilitated by Paul and Twila Ranck.

The topic will be "Lessons of Grief Part II." Attendees will discover what grief is teaching them. They will also learn about the benefits of helping others.

ACE Meeting

Attorney John Rafferty will talk about anti-human trafficking legislation in Pennsylvania at the Thursday, May 2, meeting of ACE (Advocating, Collaborating, Educating) Anti-Human Trafficking Alliance of Oxford. Rafferty is returning at the special request of his audience of last year.

The one-hour presentation, which will include time for questions, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Public Library, 48 S. Second St., Oxford. For more information, call 610-932-0337.

Support Group

An Alzheimer/Dementia Caregiver Support Group, sponsored by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and facilitated by trained professionals, meets on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. in the church house of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 116 Lancaster Pike, Oxford. The next meeting will be on May 4; all are welcome.

During the meetings, individuals caring for loved ones in various stages of the Alzheimer's Disease share coping skills, learn about the disease process, recognize options available for continuing care and form a safe, non-judgmental community of caring.

Princess Ball

The Friends of the Moores Memorial Library will host a Princess Ball on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the historic White Chimneys Estate, 5117 Lincoln Highway, Gap. All princes and princesses ages 2 to 12 are invited to attend. The ball will include refreshments, dancing, carriage rides (weather permitting), and more. Special VIP admission will begin at 1 p.m.

Snow White, Anna, Elsa, and many of their princess friends will attend. Attendees are invited to wear their favorite princess, prince, or knight costume.
