Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

ACE Meeting

Attorney John Rafferty will talk about anti-human trafficking legislation in Pennsylvania at the Thursday, May 2, meeting of ACE (Advocating, Collaborating, Educating) Anti-Human Trafficking Alliance of Oxford. Rafferty is returning at the special request of his audience of last year.

The one-hour presentation, which will include time for questions, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Public Library, 48 S. Second St., Oxford. For more information, call 610-932-0337.

Support Group

An Alzheimer/Dementia Caregiver Support Group, sponsored by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and facilitated by trained professionals, meets on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. in the church house of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 116 Lancaster Pike, Oxford. The next meeting will be on May 4; all are welcome.

During the meetings, individuals caring for loved ones in various stages of the Alzheimer's Disease share coping skills, learn about the disease process, recognize options available for continuing care and form a safe, non-judgmental community of caring.

Princess Ball

The Friends of the Moores Memorial Library will host a Princess Ball on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the historic White Chimneys Estate, 5117 Lincoln Highway, Gap. All princes and princesses ages 2 to 12 are invited to attend. The ball will include refreshments, dancing, carriage rides (weather permitting), and more. Special VIP admission will begin at 1 p.m.

Snow White, Anna, Elsa, and many of their princess friends will attend. Attendees are invited to wear their favorite princess, prince or knight costume.

Society Meeting

The Sadsbury Township Historical Society will meet on Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Sadsbury Township Municipal Building, 2920 Lincoln Highway, Sadsburyville. The speaker will be Greg Huber, an architectural historian, who will talk about the historic barns of southeastern Pennsylvania.

Visitors are welcome. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served following the program. For more information, call 717-442-9240.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, May 7, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.

GriefShare

GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a loved one, will meet on Tuesday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. The meetings are facilitated by Paul and Twila Ranck.

The topic will be "Heaven." The session will answer questions about heaven and the afterlife, such as what heaven is like, whether a person should try to communicate with their deceased loved one, whether near-death experiences are reliable descriptions of heaven and more.

Volunteers Needed

All are invited to learn about volunteer opportunities at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. An orientation is held on the second Tuesday of each month at the VA, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Building 5 (lower level). The session, which is held from 1 to 4 p.m., includes an optional tour of the outpatient clinics and community living center. The next session will be on Tuesday, May 14; no registration is required.

Sponsors/Vendors Sought

Community Day in Parkesburg, featuring music, food, fireworks and more, will be held on Saturday, July 6, rain or shine, beginning at 3 p.m. at Minch Park, 400 West St., Parkesburg. All activities will be free, and all proceeds will go to local charities.
