The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.
Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Historic Talk
"Newlin Grist Mill: Serving the Community for Over Three Centuries," a free talk by Tony Shahan, will be presented on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m., at the New London Academy, 902 State Road, Lincoln University. Shahan, the director of the historic mill, which is located in Glen Mills, will speak about how the mill has adapted to changing needs and markets since it was built in 1704. All are welcome.
Kids To Park Day
The third annual Kids to Park Day will be held at Oxford Area Regional Park, 900 W. Locust St., Oxford, on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Offered will be free games, activities and crafts. TOPS Meeting
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, May 14, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.
Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.
GriefShare
GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a loved one, will meet on Tuesday, May 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. The meetings are facilitated by Paul and Twila Ranck.
The topic will be "What Do I Live for Now? The session will provide attendees practical advice on how to continue moving forward in their grief. They will also learn why peace and pain will always coexist.

Volunteers Needed
All are invited to learn about volunteer opportunities at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. An orientation is held on the second Tuesday of each month at the VA, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Building 5 (lower level). The session, which is held from 1 to 4 p.m., includes an optional tour of the outpatient clinics and community living center. The next session will be on Tuesday, May 14; no registration is required.

Society Meeting
The Historical Society of Salisbury Township will meet on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the Salisbury Township Building, 5581 Old Philadelphia Pike, White Horse. Gerry Treadway will present the "History of Uncle Sam."
Attendees will learn about the surprising beginnings of one of the country's most recognized national symbols and be able to meet "Uncle Sam" in person.

American Legion
Because of the Memorial Day holiday, American Legion Charles F. Moran Post 475, which normally meets on the fourth Monday of every month, will instead meet on Monday, May 20.
The group meets at 11 a.m. at Freedom Village at Brandywine, 15 Freedom Blvd., Coatesville. A free lunch will follow the meeting. Donations will be accepted.
Membership is open to veterans of various conflicts, including World War II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the Gulf War, as well as those currently serving in the War on Terror.

Community Day in Parkesburg, featuring music, food, fireworks and more, will be held on Saturday, July 6, rain or shine, beginning at 3 p.m. at Minch Park, 400 West St., Parkesburg. All activities will be free, and all proceeds will go to local charities.
