Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Bluegrass Concert

The Blades of Grass Bluegrass Band will perform an evening of bluegrass tunes on the newly renovated side patio at the Oxford Area Senior Center, 12 E. Locust St., Oxford, on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. The free concert under the stars is open to people of all ages.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and refreshments. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted. Donations will be accepted. In the event of rain, the concert will be rescheduled. For details and reservations, contact 610-932-5244 or oxsrctr@zoominternet.net.

Vacation Bible School

St. Paul's Church will hold a summer vacation Bible school program, themed "Victory in the Lord," at Huffnagle Park, Quarryville, on Wednesdays from July 10 through 31 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Library Programs

Pequea Valley Public Library (PVPL), 31 Center St., Intercourse, is hosting a variety of programs this summer. For more information about the library's programs, visit the library, call 717-768-3160 or visit http://www.pvpl.org.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania will present a virtual reality program on Wednesday, July 10, at 10:30 a.m. for children in grades one to five. Registration is required.

Pout-Pout Fish story time will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 11:15 a.m. Attendees may bring cameras to take photos during this family program.

Concert

The Friends Folk Club along with St. Christopher's Episcopal Church will present a rare area performance by The Ragged But Right Quartet featuring Colin Gilmore, Adam Traum and The Kennedys, on Friday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m.

St. Christopher's Episcopal Church is located at 116 Lancaster Pike, Oxford. Doors will open at 7 p.m.; the concert will start at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the church.

Tickets will be available at the door. Children age 12 and under will be admitted for free. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items that will be given to the local area food cupboards.

The Road Rancher Food Truck from West Grove will be onsite at 5:30 p.m. offering food to purchase.

Green Cleaning

A green cleaning program will be presented on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Parkesburg Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg. Attendees will explore how to clean by using just water, and how to reduce chemicals in their homes and workplaces by using green cleaning products. A few cleaning demonstrations will be featured.

Vacation Bible School

West Grove United Methodist Church, 300 N. Guernsey Road, West Grove, will present vacation Bible school (VBS) from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. The theme will be "To Mars and Beyond!"

Children will enjoy a week of interactive, energizing, activities that will explore the lengths of where God's power can take them. Through activities such as science, art, music, missions and stories, attendees will learn together how to serve God and God's mission for their lives. The program is open to children in prekindergarten through grade six.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight-loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, July 16, at the Oxford Senior Center, 12 Locust St., Oxford.

Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. For more information, contact Joyce at 410-375-5629.

Ice Cream Social

An ice cream social will be held at Oxford United Methodist Church, 18 Addison St., Oxford, on Wednesday, July 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The church is located at the corner of Addison and Market streets.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible school (VBS), themed "The Incredible Race" will be hosted at Oxford United Methodist Church, 18 Addison St., Oxford, from Sunday, July 28, to Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. VBS is for children from kindergarten to sixth grade.

Youngsters will discover they are all part of the same race - the human race - as they enjoy songs, crafts, games, snacks and dramas. They will also learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. At the end of each day, the youths will get a summary sheet to share what they have learned.

Family members and friends are encouraged to attend on Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. for a closing ceremony.
