Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Support Group

Green Hills Manor at The Heritage, the personal and memory care community on the campus of The Heritage of Green Hills, will host its monthly support group for caregivers of individuals suffering from dementia, as well as other debilitating diseases.

The caregiver support group will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Held in conjunction with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the session is free and open to the public.

The support group will be conducted by trained Alzheimer's Association facilitators and held at Green Hills Manor, which is located at 10 Tranquility Lane, Shillington, just off Morgantown Road/Route 10 across from the Flying Hills Golf Course.

Lunch And Learn

A Lunch and Learn program will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Bingaman Nature Center, located at 2843 Hill Road, Reading. Attendees, who should bring their own lunches, will learn the history of Antietam Lake Park through a PowerPoint presentation.

Retirement Seminar

Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road (Route 10), Honey Brook, will present a retirement seminar on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m. Helpers will be available to answer questions about how to plan for retirement.

Breakfast With The Bible

Alan Lindsay, senior warden of the Church of Saint Mary at Calvary in Elverson, will host Breakfast With the Bible on Friday, Aug. 23, at 8:30 a.m. at the Morgantown Coffee House, 4997 N. Twin Valley Road, Elverson.

Attendees should bring a Bible and may enjoy coffee, tea, and/or breakfast. The community is invited to participate.

Horse Show

Good Fellowship Riding Club, 724 Monocacy Creek Road, Birdsboro, will host a Friday Night Fun Show on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. For more details, visit http://www.goodfellwshipridingclub.com.

Open House

The public is invited to an open house at The Red Door (formerly Morgantown United Methodist Church) on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Snacks will be provided, and there will be children's activities, including face painting offered by Morgantown Arts & Holistic Health Center, which is located in the building. There will also be an appearance by Wacky Patti, who will make balloon animals.

Also represented at the event will be Embody Grace, which will detail the health benefits of qigong, an exercise program; Cleverly deSigns Pottery, a paint-your-own-pottery studio located in the building; Young Living Essential Oils; and New Beginnings Congregation, which meets for Sunday worship at 10 a.m.

Hike

Members of the Berks Community Strollers will hike the nature trails at Bondsville Mill Park in East Brandywine Township on Saturday, Aug. 24. The public is welcome to participate.

The group will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the park, where there will be parking available. For GPS users, the park's address is 1641 Bondsville Road, Downingtown.

EWC Water Walk

The Elverson Walking Club (EWC) will hold its annual afternoon water walk on Sunday, Aug. 25, at Warwick County Park, Knauertown. Community members are invited to attend. The group will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the park's main parking area.

Attendees will take part in a 3-mile hike around the park, crossing two streams that will require hikers to be prepared to wade across them. The first crossing is usually a shallow crossing but the second, fording French Creek, will be deeper.

Participants should bring water shoes, a hiking stick, a snack and a beverage. Pets will be welcome.

TOPS Meeting

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nonprofit weight loss support group, will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 8:45 to 10 a.m. at The Torch Community Center, located in the Clock Tower Plaza in Morgantown. Clothing Closet

The Anchored by Grace mobile clothing closet, which offers free clothing and accessories to people in need, will be stationed in the parking lot at the Twin Valley Food Pantry, located at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

In addition, Anchored by Grace will present a back-to-school event at Morgantown Community Church, 4221 Main St., Elverson, on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each visiting student will receive a book bag with school supplies and toiletries. The students must be present to receive a book bag.

Community Dinner

St. Peter United Church of Christ, 1920 Ridge Road (Route 23), Knauertown, will hold a community dinner on Friday, Aug. 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy food and fellowship.

The church holds the dinners on the last Friday of each month. Next month's dinner will take place on Sept. 27.

"Flying Fur" Screening

LaMancha Animal Rescue and Flying Fur Rescue will present an outdoor screening of the documentary "Flying Fur" on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. at the Waynebrook Inn, routes 322 and 10, Honey Brook.

Flying Fur pilot Paul Steklenski and Woody, stars of the film, will be in attendance. Ticket sales will be split between both rescues. Additional donations will be accepted for the rescues.
