Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Blood Donors Needed

The American Red Cross is asking healthy people to consider donating blood after a number of blood drives have been canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus.

The Red Cross is facing a severe shortage and is asking people to make an appointment to donate blood by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting http://www.RedCrossBlood.org or calling 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767).

Nature Preserve Open

The Sadsbury Woods Preserve, 443 Old Wilmington Road (between Northwood Drive and Skiles Road), Coatesville, is open for passive outdoor recreation. However, all buildings and restrooms across Natural Lands' properties are closed to the public until further notice.

Online Service

Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, has suspended all its activities for March. However, everyone is welcome to view the Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. at http://www.facebook.com/luthgoodshep. It is not necessary to have a Facebook account to participate in the online service. Online Service

All church activities and worship services are currently suspended at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lionville. However, the church is livestreaming its Sunday service at 10:45 a.m. To access the virtual worship service, visit http://www.stpaulslionville.org.

Sermon Series

Grace Covenant Church, 444 Creamery Way, Exton, is currently live streaming its Sunday worship services. Visit http://www.gracecovenantepc.org. at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday to participate.

Pasto Tim Brown is currently offering a sermon series that addresses Christ's resurrection from death. The talk on March 29 will address the question, "Why does the resurrection matter anyway?"

Bingo Canceled

The Newcomers Club of Central Chester County (NCCCC) has announced that the annual Designer Bag Bingo event planned for Saturday, April 4, has been canceled and it has been decided not to reschedule for later this year. The club plans to resume the event in 2021, with a tentative date of Saturday, April 10, 2021.

NCCC is asking ticketholders to donate their cost of their purchased bingo ticket to benefit the community. This is not mandatory. Those who would like their ticket money returned may contact Newcomers.bingo@yahoo.com for refund instructions.

Nature Program

Restore Our Roots, a new environmental group in Downingtown, is planning a native planting and invasive removal volunteer event in Kerr Park on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Attendees will learn how to properly plant a tree or shrub, engage in a nature meditation and more.

5K, Fun Run

HIGH 5 Soccer, a free program for youths with special needs offered by the Glenmoore Eagle Youth Association (GEYA), will host "HIGH 5K for Connor," featuring a 5K and fun run, on Sunday, April 19, at Fellowship Field No. 1, located at 241 Fellowship Road, Chester Springs.

The purpose of the event is to raise funds for Connor Dobbyn, 11, who has been diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome Type C, also known as childhood Alzheimer's. To register for the race or to donate, visit http://www.racemenu.com/connor.

Meeting Rescheduled

The Sadsbury Township Historical Society decided to cancel its meeting on Monday, April 6. The scheduled April speaker has been rescheduled to February 2021.

The group's next scheduled meeting will be on Monday, May 4, and the speaker will be Chuck Chalfant. His topic will be "Chalfant Manufacturing Company, Atglen, PA." The decision about whether or not to cancel the May meeting will be made in mid-April.

Bingo Rescheduled

The Coatesville Kid Raiders' designer handbag bingo scheduled for Sunday, April 5, at the Wagontown Fire Hall, located at 412 W. Kings Highway, Coatesville, has been rescheduled or Sunday, May 24. Doors will open at noon, and bingo games will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Ticketholders will receive a program, an 18-game bingo card booklet and a ticket to win a prize.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and beverages, but both will be available for purchase from the Wagontown Fire Company.

Bag Bingo Rescheduled

Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue's first designer bag bingo set for Sunday, March 29, at Wagontown Fire Company, 412 W. Kings Highway, Wagontown, has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 12. Those who purchased their ticket for March 29 will be able to use the same digital ticket they received in their email.

Doors will open at noon. Featured will be Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Dooney & Bourke bags.
