Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Support Group

A Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m. at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., (Route 23), Morgantown. Meetings will run weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 3.

Because of COVID-19, only bottled water and wrapped snacks will be offered. Attendees will practice social distancing, and masks are recommended.

Virtual 5K/10K

OneRunTogether (ORT), a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and spiritual support to local cancer patients, will present the first "Jolly Jingle in July" Virtual 5K/10K Race from 7 a.m. on Friday, July 24, through 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.

Because of social distancing, participants will be asked to complete a 5K or 10K on their own, whether it be running or walking on trails, roads or on treadmills. All runners and walkers who register will receive a wrapped Christmas present. The top prizes for the overall male and female winners of the 5K run will be delivered Christmas cookies from Amy's Sweet Tooth Cookies.

The virtual event will be based on an honor system, and runners are encouraged to measure the 5K (3.1 miles) or the 10K (6.2 miles) with a running app or a treadmill. Only those who run the 5K and 10K will be eligible for the top prizes.

Golf Outing

The second annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Animal House Project dba Chester County Pet Food Pantry will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook.

The charity golf outing will open with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Tee-off with a scramble start will begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee includes range balls, green fees, use of a cart, a swag bag, breakfast and lunch. There will also be cash prizes awarded for a hole-in-one and a shoot-out contest, as well as an opportunity to win gift baskets.

Both groups of four and individuals are invited to register to play golf. Nongolfers are also welcome to attend to enjoy the meals and to enter the prize drawings. Summer Revival

Gateway Baptist Church, 143 Suplee Road, Honey Brook, is having a Summer Revival on Sunday, July 26, through Wednesday, July 29. The service on Sunday will be at 10 a.m. Services on Monday through Wednesday will be at 7 p.m.

Free Meal

Anchored Ministries is offering a free takeout meal on Thursday, July 23 (and every Thursday through Aug. 20), at Morgantown Community Church, 4221 Main St., Elverson.

Free meals are served beginning at 5 p.m. If meals are gone prior to 7 p.m., a notice will be posted at http://www.facebook.com/AnchoredMinistriesPA. Preregistration is suggested by visiting http://www.anchoredministries.org, but walk-ins will be welcome.

Town Tours

This summer, the annual Chester County Town Tours and Village Walks program will be held virtually. The new virtual summer series for 2020 will feature favorite historic sites through "Live at Five" programs on Thursdays at 5 p.m. throughout July and August.

The following programs will be featured: July 23, Historic Sugartown; July 30, Hibernia Mansion; Aug. 6, Historic Yellow Springs; Aug. 13, historic West Chester; and Aug. 26, Special Preview: Kennett Square Occupation Day.

The virtual summer series will take place virtually through Zoom, a free video conferencing software for use with computers, tablets and cellphones. All programs are free, and registration is required.

Supplies Needed

Anchored Ministries is holding a back-to-school supply drive. Items that are needed include new backpacks, pens and pencils, notebook, binders, folders, etc. New backpacks full of supplies will be distrubuted by the organization to students in the Twin Valley and Daniel Boone school districts.

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at Morgantown Community Church, 4221 Main St., Elverson, on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., or on Sundays between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Donations of school supplies can also be dropped off at Anchored Ministries, 40 S. Chestnut St., Elverson, on Mondays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon.
