Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Support Group

A Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., (Route 23), Morgantown. Meetings will run weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 3.

Because of COVID-19, only bottled water and wrapped snacks will be offered. Attendees will practice social distancing, and masks are recommended.

Free Meal

Anchored Ministries is offering a free takeout meal on Thursday, Aug. 6 (and every Thursday through Aug. 20), at Morgantown Community Church, 4221 Main St., Elverson.

Free meals are served beginning at 5 p.m. If meals are gone prior to 7 p.m., a notice will be posted at http://www.facebook.com/AnchoredMinistriesPA. Preregistration is suggested by visiting http://www.anchoredministries.org, but walk-ins will be welcome.

Chicken Barbecue

Honey Brook Fire Company will hold a drive-through chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 8 a.m. until sold out. Sale locations in Honey Brook will be in the parking lot at Kern Hardware, 450 Pequea Ave., and at Honey Brook Hardware, 550 Compass Road.

The menu will include a leg and thigh, macaroni salad, a roll, a whoopie pie and a beverage.

There will also be a sale of fresh baked goods, soft-serve ice cream and an opportunity to win a gas grill through a random drawing.

Outdoor Story Time

Boone Area Library is offering outdoor story time at Amity Community Park, 1845 Weavertown Road, Douglassville, on Mondays, Aug. 10, 24 and 31, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Outdoor story time will also be held at Main Bird Park, 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro, on Wednesdays, Aug. 12, 19 and 25, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Study Review Sessions

Municipal Resources Inc. will present the completed Chester County Fire and EMS Strategic Plan on behalf of the Chester County Fire Chiefs Association, Chester County EMS Council Inc. and the Chester Fire Police Association on three separate dates in August via WebEx virtual presentation. The presentations are intended for first responders, municipal and elected officials and Chester County citizens.

Sessions will be held on the following dates: Monday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, Aug. 25, 7 to 9 p.m.; and Wednesday, Aug. 26, noon to 2 p.m. Each session will have the same content.

Shop Open

The Morgantown ReUzit Shop, 2769 Main St., Morgantown, is now open for limited hours on Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations will be accepted during operating hours only. For more information, call 610-286-7233 or visit http://www.morgantownreuzit.org.

Supplies Needed

Anchored Ministries is holding a back-to-school supply drive. Items that are needed include new backpacks, pens and pencils, notebook, binders, folders, etc. New backpacks full of supplies will be distributed by the organization to students in the Twin Valley and Daniel Boone school districts.

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at Morgantown Community Church, 4221 Main St., Elverson, on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., or on Sundays between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Donations of school supplies can also be dropped off at Anchored Ministries, 40 S. Chestnut St., Elverson, on Mondays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

Curbside Pickup

The Boone Area Library, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro, remain closed to patrons. However, the library is offering curbside pickup services on Mondays and Wednesday and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Patrons can request books, DVDs, magazines, CDs and audio books either online at http://www.berkslibraries.org/branch/boone or by calling 610-582-5666.

Once the items are ready, a staff member will call to schedule a pickup time. Item scan be picked up in the Community Room, located to the left of the main entrance. All patrons who enter the building to pick up their items should wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Library Open

The Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road, Honey Brook, is open to the public for limited hours. The library will allow people inside the building on Mondays through Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Browsing for materials and public computer usage will be limited. Curbside pickup for books and materials will continue before and after the hours that the library is open to the public

Curbside Pickup

The Village Library, 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown, is not allowing patrons into the building at this time. However, curbside services are offered on Wednesdays from 1:15 to 5:45 p.m. and on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and by appointment only. Masks must be worn when picking up items at the library.

To request books and make an appointment to pick them up, patrons may utilize an online signup sheet. To access the sheet, visit http://www.signupgenius.com and enter the email address of library director Maria Long, smolibrary@gmail.com. Those without access to a computer can reserve materials by calling the library at 610-286-1022.

Patrons will then be given a time to pick up their books, which will be bagged and labeled and placed in the library's vestibule. Appointments for pickup will be made in 15-minute increments.
