Community Health Survey Announced

Residents of Lancaster County are invited to take an online Community Health Needs Assessment survey to share opinions about the most important health issues in Lancaster County. The survey, available in both English and Spanish, will be available throughout October.

In addition, residents are invited to attend any of three virtual presentations that will provide a summary of local health data and offer an opportunity to share feedback on the community's health priorities. The presentations will take place on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with signup at http://www.primetime.bluejeans.com/a2m/register/hqetgwph; on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., with registration at http://www.primetime.bluejeans.com/a2m/register/favxygaj; and on Friday, Nov. 12, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with signup at http://www.primetime.bluejeans.com/a2m/register/htcrfjev.

The assessment is a process involving the community to identify and prioritize Lancaster County's most important health needs. Under the Affordable Care Act, all nonprofit hospitals are required to complete a Community Health Needs Assessment every three years. As in past years, WellSpan Health and Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health have chosen to coordinate efforts to assess health needs in the Lancaster County community.

The Lancaster County Community Health Needs Assessment also includes key stakeholder interviews with community leaders in business, philanthropy, social services, health services, and other sectors, as well as secondary data. The final report will be published in mid-2022.

Previous needs assessments have guided the hospitals' community benefit initiatives and programs to improve community health. The most recent Lancaster County Community Health Needs Assessment was completed in 2019 and included four priority areas: basic needs for health, such as housing, food, access to health care; mental, emotional, and behavioral health; healthy eating and physical activity; and the physical environment.
