Community REACH Continues Programs

Community REACH Inc., 15 First Ave., Red Lion, will offer free programs designed for the community served by the Dallastown, Eastern, and Red Lion school districts. Additional information is available at http://www.commreach.org and http://www.facebook.com/commreach.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Community REACH will host a cooking and nutrition session in conjunction with the Penn State Extension Nutrition Links. Penn State Extension nutrition education adviser Terri Rentzel will instruct the class. Students will receive free lessons with activities as they learn how to eat healthy on a limited budget and cook low-cost, fast and easy meals. Participants will sample new healthy foods, receive weekly incentives, and earn a free slow cooker upon completion of the program. Participants may attend the free class if they are a parent or caregiver of a child under 20 years of age who qualifies for free or reduced-cost school lunches, WIC, SNAP benefits, food pantry items, or Pennsylvania Farmers Market Vouchers. An English Language Learning (ELL) class will take place on Thursdays, Oct. 24 and 31, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Albert Storm will instruct the class, which will focus on learning the English language in small group and individual formats. Also, on Oct. 24 and 31, from 3 to 4 p.m. instructor Sam Neff will present "Computers and Technology for Beginners." The session on Oct. 24 will focus on finding employment opportunities using the internet, filling out a form on Google Chrome, and other basic computer functions for beginners. The session on Oct. 31 will focus on using the internet and email and other basic computer functions. Computers will be provided. On Friday, Oct. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m., Lacey Brooks, a human resources manager, will present "Dress for Success." Participants will learn tips on how to dress appropriately for a job interview as well as information related to the interview process. On Monday, Oct. 28, from 10 to 11 a.m., Sherrie Horton from Wells Fargo will offer a presentation. The program is designed to help participants achieve financial goals through education on basic money skills. Topics may include building credit, owning a business, investing in the market or a home, shopping for a loan, or opening a bank account. On Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, Lacey Brooks from Gichner Systems will be share about employment opportunities provided at Gichner, 490 E. Locust St., Dallastown. Registration is not required for the walk-in format event.

On Friday, Nov. 1, from 10 to 11 a.m., Michele Wherley, human resource/training manager for First Capital Federal Credit Union, will present a session on interviewing skills. Wherley will discuss the current trends related to job interviews, along with preparation and follow-up practices.
