Community REACH, 15 First Ave., Red Lion, will offer a variety of educational programs in February. Representatives from Kelly Services will share employment opportunities from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The event will be a walk-in format, and no registration is required.
A program titled "Nutrition Information About Fruits and Vegetables" will be presented by Tabatha Valenti, nutrition education adviser, Penn State Extension, from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19. A Cooking and Nutrition Class information session will also be offered during the activity.
The Cooking and Nutrition class will be held in conjunction with Penn State Extension, Nutrition Links. Classes, led by Terri Rentzel, Penn State Extension nutrition education adviser, will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 26 to March 25. Students will receive free lessons with fun activities as they learn how to eat healthy on a limited budget; cook low-cost, fast, and easy meals; keep food safe to eat; sample new healthy foods; receive weekly incentives; and earn a free slow cooker upon completion of the program. Individuals may attend the free class if they are a parent or caregiver of a child under age 20 who qualifies for free or reduced-cost school lunch, WIC, SNAP benefits, food pantry items, or Pennsylvania Farmers Market Vouchers.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Albert Storm will offer an English Language Learning class. Small group and individual instruction will be provided for English language learners of all levels. New students are accepted at any time. A door prize will be provided.
A Computers and Technology class will be instructed by Sam Neff from 2 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 20. This class is suitable for beginners and experienced users. Beginners will cover a variety of introductory topics, and experienced users are invited to join the class to use Chromebooks for tasks they want to do with assistance from the instructor. Registration is required, and a door prize will be given.
Essential Skills for Employment will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Instructor Scott Brenneman of York Electrical Institute will discuss absenteeism, personal conduct, personal appearance, and harassment. Also, the class will look at the effects of productivity, the perception that others have, and work ethic. Registration is required, and two gift cards will be given away during the class.
