The Ephrata Concert Band will launch its 2019 season with a concert on Sunday, June 16, at 7:15 p.m. in the band shell at Ephrata Borough's Grater Park. Martin Hinkley will conduct the band.
The public is encouranged to bring folding chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move inside the Ephrata Recreation Center at 130 S. Academy Drive.
The program will open will "The Star-Spangled Banner." The first half of the program will also include Henry Fillmore's "His Honor," John Higgins' arrangement of "Disney and the Movies," a Rachmaninoff prelude, the Broadway show tune "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," the waltz "As a Dream," selections from George M. Cohan's "The Royal Vagabond" and Fillmore's "The Footlifter."
At intermission, refreshments will be for sale by Carol Stark and her 4OurKids educational charity.
The second half of the concert will open with Alford's "Colonel Bogey March," followed by the torch song "Stormy Weather." The band will also play the "Beer Barrel Polka," the "Cotton Top Rag," the lively "Galop Medley," the hymn "O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee" and John Philip Sousa's "The Gridiron Club."
The Ephrata Concert Band Committee has been conducting a fund drive to keep alive the tradition of the admission-free concerts in Grater Park, and the Ephrata Borough mayor and council have provided a $2,000 grant. Donations will also be accepted at the six consecutive Sunday-evening concerts.
