Manada Conservancy will hold a presentation titled "Plants Rule! Harvesting the Sun for Climate Solutions" on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at Hershey Gardens Conservatory, 170 Hotel Road, Hershey.
Tom Richard of Penn State University will help attendees understand the ability of living plants in agriculture and forest ecosystems to remove carbon from the atmosphere. He will also discuss new approaches to using that plant carbon for energy, manufacturing, and reversing climate change.
Richard is a professor of agricultural and biological engineering and the director of Penn State's Institutes of Energy and the Environment, where he coordinates interdisciplinary research and education on energy, water, climate, and environmental health. His research and teaching focus on the intersection of sustainable agriculture and the emerging bio-based economy.
