The All-American Cornet Band, one of the performing groups of the New Holland Band, will perform on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. on the deck of the Eicher Arts Center in Grater Park, 409 Cocalico St., Ephrata. The event will be held weather-permitting.
The eight-members band will play patriotic pieces, marches and popular tunes from three eras of American history. Many of the tunes are of the kind that cornet bands would have played in their 19th-century heyday. Others are from early 20th-century composers such as George M. Cohan.
The band includes three cornet players. Kenneth Laudermilch, music director of the New Holland Band and resident cornet soloist, said the shape of the cornet gives the instrument a mellow sound.
Admission is free. Audience members are urged to bring folding chairs.
In the event of extreme weather, the event will take place inside the Eicher Arts Center. Audience members are urged to bring face masks.
The event is part of the Eicher Arts Center Inc.'s Sunday afternoon series of entertainment and cultural events for the public. Donations to the nonprofit Arts Center will be accepted.
