County Park Posts Programs

The Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, which will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Children under age 3 may attend for free. Registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event, unless stated otherwise.

A Night Hike will be offered on Friday, April 5, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. It is open to individuals age 5 and older. Night hikes provide an opportunity to see nocturnal animals rarely seen during the day and discover a unique sensory experience. Participants will join a naturalist for the hike on the Scout Trail close to the Environmental Center.

Bird Spottin' at Chickies Rock will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Chickies Rock - Overlook Trail, 880 Chickies Hill Road, Columbia. The activity is open to people age 10 and older. During the bird spotting trek, participants will learn birding techniques, identification tricks, and facts about bird biology. The meeting spot will be at the Chickies Rock County Park Main Overlook Trail parking lot.

Harry Potter Day, designed for children age 7 and older, will be held on April 6 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. A naturalist will share how the mythical series relates to nature, from owls to potions. The event will feature lessons, crafts, and activities, including wand-making.

Seeds and Sprouts will take place on Sunday, April 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Participants will help spread the seeds of wildflowers by making a paper seed bomb and a sponge sprout. While crafts are drying, a naturalist will lead a walk around Central Park to discover wildflowers in the woods.

Fun and Fascination: Spring Wildflowers, a program for children ages 6 to 10, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Children will discover early spring wildflowers and their adaptations for survival under the tree canopy. Children under age 6 with adults are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
