County Plans Park Programs

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Unless specified otherwise, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. GO Outdoors will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, and is open to people of all ages. Participants will meet at the Environmental Center Forebay. A naturalist will lead a short hike to gather appropriate fire-starting materials on the way to Campsite 3. Once there, participants will practice a variety of fire-starting methods and share fixings for s'mores.

Valentine Papermaking, a program for people of all ages, will be held twice on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Sessions will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m. A naturalist will provide materials to create unique valentines for the special people in participants' lives. Attendees are welcome to bring additional materials like dried flowers, seeds, and other special items, if desired. Attendees should dress for a potentially messy craft.

Homeschool Wednesday: Insect Migrations will be open to homeschooled children ages 8 to 12 on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Winter and early spring homeschool science classes will explore migration. Each session will delve into the wonders of migration within a different animal group.

Girl Scout Detective Badge, a program for Junior Girl Scouts, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Naturalist Ann Strauss will lead the program, during which all requirements for the badge will be completed.

Munchkin Science - Exploring Water, a program for children ages 3 to 5, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. During the program, which will be led by Strauss, children will learn about the properties of water through play and exploration.
