Audrey Miller, Jo Miller, and Judy Eitnier, who are organizing the Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church (BIHUMC) Crafter's Bazaar, which features 100% handcrafted items, are adding a twist this year. "We will have tables featuring outreach mission projects to make the community aware of what we are working on," said Audrey.
The BIHUMC Women fundraiser benefits a number of local and global mission projects. Among the organizations that will receive funds are Clare House, Strait Paths Foundation, Mennonite Central Committee, programs of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, and Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services. The group will accept donations of socks, mittens, and gloves for the "Hands and Feet of Christ" project, and the donated items will be given to Water Street Mission. In addition, Pillows With a Mission will sell pillows, with all proceeds benefiting school supply kits that go to Unto. So far the group has created 361 handmade bags filled with school supplies.
BIHUMC's second Crafter's Bazaar will be held at the church, 2620 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to crafts, the event will include themed gift baskets, food, and a baked goods table. The first Crafter's Bazaar was held in 2019. The event was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Prior to that, the church had held a holiday bazaar for more than 50 years.
Among the many craft items that will be available for purchase will be knitted items, decorative snowmen dressed in sports-themed outfits, specialty candles, handmade jewelry, handmade greeting cards for all occasions, sewn dolls and animals, primitive decor, and decorative sofa pillows. A selection of holiday wreaths, ornaments, and centerpieces, along with treats for animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, will also be available for purchase.
Organizers plan to sell lunch items, including barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, and beverages. No soup will be sold at this year's event.
