"We gave 250 coats away last year in partnership with Anchored by Grace," said Lisa Kerstetter, director of marketing and events with CrossNet Ministries of New Holland.
This year, CrossNet will again partner with Anchored by Grace Mobile Clothing Closet of Morgantown for a coat giveaway to be held at the CrossNet Youth Center, 110 W. Franklin St., New Holland, on Monday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to gently used or new winter coats, the giveaway will include hats, gloves, scarves, boots, toiletries, and blankets. Kerstetter noted that the giveaway is always held on Columbus Day since ELANCO School District students have the day off from school and can come along to try on coats. The giveaway serves infants through seniors in high school within the school district.
To gather the necessary items to keep New Holland area children warm this winter, CrossNet will accept coats, hats, scarves, and gloves, along with toiletries, at its offices at 123 W. Franklin St., New Holland, through Thursday, Oct. 10. Donors who bring a brand-new coat to contribute to the drive will be entered to win a $50 gift card. The gift card drawing will be held following the end of the drive.
Kerstetter stated that there is a special need for certain sizes of coats. "The sizes we need the most are for the third- through sixth-grade (students)," shared Kerstetter, who added that those students generally wear youth sizes 10 through 16. Financial donations for the giveaway will also be accepted.
"Students can come and get blankets, toiletries, shoes," said Kerstetter, who said that shoes and boots will mostly be provided by Anchored by Grace; however, if area residents wish to donate gently used winter boots, CrossNet will be happy to accept them.
In August, CrossNet gave away 586 backpacks filled with school supplies. The organization partnered with Anchored by Grace for that event as well. "(Anchored by Grace) partners with us at the community meal and at our and Christmas gift giveaway outreaches (as well)," said Kerstetter. "They have become wonderful partners for our major outreaches."
