On Oct. 15, the West York Area School District and the West York Area Education Association (WYAEA) reached an agreement on a three-year employment contract. The contract, approved by the board, will take effect on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, and continue through Friday, June 30, 2023.
Included in the agreement are salary increases and teacher schedule adjustments that will keep West York competitive in York County. Key aspects of the contract include salary increases of 3.85%, 3.75%, and 3.60% over three consecutive years; an increase from 75% to 80% in district contributions to the professional employee Health Savings Account (HSA); professional employees' duty-free lunch changed from 40 minutes to 30 minutes; teachers' planning time across the district made more equitable; student days changed from 184 to 182, with 180 required by Pennsylvania; teachers slated to attend two additional professional learning days to replace the above changes to student days; and total teacher days remaining the same at 191.
