District Slates Parent Training

Solanco School District will offer special education training for parents via Zoom on Wednesday, April 14. The training will feature virtual breakout sessions based on the presentations each participant chooses to attend.

Five presentations will be offered, and parents may choose three to attend. The topics are Verbal Behavior; Reducing Anxiety at Home; At Home Learning Tips; Better Sleep, Better Brain; and Evaluations, IEPs & the Special Education Process.

Topics in Verbal Behavior will include verbal behavior terminology, how to provide error-less teaching for students at home in the natural environment, how to promote independence, and teaching activities of daily living. Reducing Anxiety at Home will help parents learn how creating schedules, identifying emotions, and learning coping and relaxation strategies can help reduce anxiety.

At Home Learning Tips will offer a variety of fun learning games designed to help a child grow his or her skills and knowledge in math facts, spelling, and sight word reading. Better Sleep, Better Brain will include basic information on sleep, how sleep affects brain functioning in children and adults, and steps to develop a more consistent and effective sleep schedule. Evaluations, IEPs & the Special Education Process will share how the special education process works in Solanco School District and how parents are an important part of the team.
