The next Hershey Area All Things Diversity virtual event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The free presentation will wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month and is free and open to the public. It will be livestreamed on the Derry Township Administration YouTube channel.
The topic is "The Latino/Hispanic Presence in Central PA." The speaker, Hector Ortiz, will talk about the basics in understanding culture, diversity, and differences, as well as the framework of intercultural communication. This presentation will define terms such as Latino and Hispanic, and it will explore similarities and differences in the Latino Hispanic community as well as how culture, language, and traditions interact with the generations of people.
Ortiz is the founder and former president of Estamos Unidos de Pennsylvania, a grassroots not-for-profit organization created to promote cultural awareness and postsecondary opportunities for children. He is the co-founder and former president of the Latino/Hispanic Professional Association of Central Pennsylvania, the co-founder and former charter president of the Latino Hispanic American Community Center, and the founder of the Dauphin County Diversity Forum.

Hershey Area All Things Diversity is a free series of programs intended to create awareness and promote acceptance and inclusion in the community. It is coordinated by Derry Township, The Hershey Story Museum, Derry Township School District, Milton Hershey School, The Hershey Company, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, and Hershey Trust Company.
