According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. The organization projects that by 2025, this number will rise to nearly 13 million. Additionally, one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. Based on this statistic, dementia kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is known as the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. A team of staff members from Caring Hospice Services (CHS), 101 Good Drive, Lancaster, participates in the walk every year and to raise awareness and donate to Alzheimer's research.
"We participate because the Alzheimer's Association is doing the cutting-edge research and they're finding treatments to help improve the quality of life for those with the disease," stated CHS volunteer coordinator Mary Lawhead. "This disease has no true, direct cure. The research is necessary and has to grow."
This year, the CHS team will partner with Bird Dog Marketing Group (BDMG) to raise funds for a donation to the walk. Located at 166 Farmington Lane, Lancaster, BDMG is an independent marketing research firm specializing in field testing of child-resistant packages. CHS is searching for people between the ages of 50 and 70 to test the lids of two different medicine bottles. For every participant, BDMG will donate $20 to the CHS team that will go toward the walk. The drive-up survey will take place on Saturday, July 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Rip Lawhead - State Farm Insurance Agent, 2524 Willow Street Pike Unit 1, Willow Street.
"At Caring Hospice Services, we try our hardest to enrich the quality of life at the end of life," said Mary. "We want to be able to give those suffering with Alzheimer's better resources and hopefully find a cure."
