Thomas Dryden, age 16, of the Lititz Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Dec. 28, 2019, at his Court of Honor. Thomas is the son of Dr. John and Laura Dryden of Lititz (Manheim Township). He is a junior at Manheim Township High School, and he is a member of BSA Troop 372.
For his Eagle Scout Project, Thomas collected emergency donations for foster children at Bethany Christian Services. Many of the children are displaced from their families in emergency situations, and often they have only the clothing on their backs. Thomas wanted to collect donations to give to them as they arrive to live with foster families to help them feel comfortable. Through the help of the community, The Church of Jesus Christ, and friends, Thomas was able to donate $1,005 in gift cards, as well as many assorted items, such as toiletries, blankets, pajamas, socks, and toys.
Helping to celebrate the event was a gathering of past and present Boy Scout leaders from his church: Brandon Adams, Justin Cracroft, Dan Smith, Brent Davis, Daniel Lloyd, Adam McBride, Jerry Beck, and Tim McFarland.
Thomas presented the mentor pin to Alex Coombs for the support he offered Thomas to achieve the rank of Eagle, and he is also grateful to his parents for their strong support in obtaining this award. Thomas has also received the Bronze Palm for completing additional merit badges beyond those required to become an Eagle.
