Duo Will Perform Irish Music

Mar 18, 2019 - 7:30 pm

Zoë Conway and John McIntyre will perform traditional Irish music on Monday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m., at the Fort Hunter Centennial Barn, 5300 N. Front St., Harrisburg. The concert is sponsored by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS).

The married duo blends eclectic fiddle and guitar music while drawing from other genres, such as classical, jazz, and world music.

Conway and McIntyre have released two recordings. Their debut album, "Go Mairir I Bhfad (Long Life to You)," received five stars from The Irish Times. For the album, 12 leading Irish composers were each commissioned to compose a piece specifically for Conway and McIntyre. In 2017, the duo released "Live in Concert," a collection of live European performances.

Conway has performed with international artists, including Riverdance, Damien Rice, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, and Rodrigo y Gabriella. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and German WDR Symphony Orchestra.

McIntyre grew up in the Cooley Mountains of north County Louth, Ireland, where he took up the guitar at age 8. He began his career as electric guitarist with the indie band The Revs, with whom he performed on many stages and festivals, including Oxygen and Slane in Ireland and Reading and Leeds in the UK, and toured in the U.S., Australia, and Europe.

Separate ticket prices have been set for adults and for students ages 3 to 22. SFMS members will receive a discount. Tickets are available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 800-838-3006. For more information, readers may visit http://www.sfmsfolk.org.
