The Strasburg Heritage Society will present a workshop on traditional Pennsylvania German methods for decorating Easter eggs on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop is open to the public and will be held at 28 E. Main St., Strasburg.
Working in an 18th-century walk-in fireplace, participants will dye eggs using natural materials such as onion skins and marigolds. They will then learn how to further embellish the eggs by scratch decorating them. Each participant will take home several decorated eggs. Participants will also paint and grain a small box in which to put one of their keepsake eggs.
The workshop will be taught by Linda Taylor of Leola and Ann Lainhoff of Strasburg. Both ladies have led workshops in traditional Easter egg decoration at the Landis Valley Museum.
Participants are encouraged to wear old clothing and to bring an apron and a hat pin for scratch decorating their eggs. All other materials will be provided.
Participants will also need to bring lunch. Dessert and beverages will be provided.
Separate fees have been set for Heritage Society members and for nonmembers.
