The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of programs and activities to the community. The library hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The library will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.
Several story time programs will be offered. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Friday Frolic for Toddlers will be offered on Fridays, except for May 24, at 10:30 a.m. and is open to walking toddlers ages 1 to 3. It will be followed by Stay and Play Friday at 11 a.m. Preschool Story Time will take place on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 5.
Special story time programs will also be offered and will feature games, crafts, songs, and more. Parachute Play will be held at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers ages 1 to 3 on Wednesday, May 1. Preschool Lab: A STEM Story Time will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, for children ages 3 to 6. Sing, Sign and Lapsit Time will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, for children up to ages 3. Siblings are also welcome to attend.
One-on-One Tech will be available on May 2 at 1 p.m. and on Saturdays, May 4 and 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. Free technology help with any device, such as a tablet or computer, will be available. Appointments are suggested by contacting the library, and walk-ins will be welcome, if time permits.
Therapy dogs will visit the library on May 4 at 10:30 a.m. The family event for all ages offers children an opportunity to read aloud to a dog to improve their reading skills and make a new friend.
May the Fourth Be With You, a Star Wars party, will take place at 11:30 a.m. on May 4. Food and games will be available to everyone.
The Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will gather at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6. Adults will gather in the downstairs board room to discuss "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate.
Explore to Learn: Electricity, open to students in kindergarten through grade six, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 6. During the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program, children will explore electricity by making paper circuits, learning about static electricity, and more.
Teen Tuesdays will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. for students in grades seven through 12. Teens are invited to chill out, hang out, and geek out in the library after school.
A Guide to Retirement program will be offered on Wednesday, May 8, at 6 p.m. The event is open to individuals age 16 and older. Attendees will learn about saving and investing and how these activities are related to retirement. The program will include stories meant to help attendees think about the future.
Zumbini, for children up to age 4, will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9. The program will include songs, dancing, and play.
Movie Night will take place on May 9 at 5:30 p.m. A snack and movie will be offered. Readers may call the library for more details.
An I Can Read Wall of Fame Celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 9. The program will celebrate new readers with cake, Readers' Theater, and photos to take home.
The ELANCO Library Community Fest will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The newest fundraising event will include a rummage sale, a chicken barbecue, food trucks, children's activities, and more. Lego Creation Club will take place on Monday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. The family event is open to individuals age 3 and older. Lego designs will be displayed in the library.
Hooks & Needles: Yarn Crafting Club will gather on May 13 at 6:30 p.m. People of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend.
Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. for players age 10 and older. New players are also welcome.
Block Party - Preschool STEM Event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 16. It is open to children ages 3 to 6.
PHEAA for Adult College Students will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 16. Open to individuals age 16 and older, the program will share information on the different aid options nontraditional students are offered.
Teen After-Hours: Geek Out! will take place on Friday, May 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Students in grades six to 12 are invited to enjoy snacks, games, and a movie. Registration is required.
Zumba at the Library will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. Advance registration is required.
Teen Study Hall, open to students in grade seven to 12, will occur from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 20. Internet access, a quiet space, and snacks will be available.
Science of Seuss: Horton Hears a Who! will take place at 6:30 p.m. on May 20. The STEM program, open to preschoolers to second-graders, will feature everyday objects at magnifications that review startling details.
The Teen Advisory Group will meet on May 20 at 6:30 p.m. The Teen Book Club will gather at 7 p.m. on May 20. Both groups are open to teens in grades six through 12.
Instagram 101 will be offered on Thursday, May 23, at 1 p.m. and is open to adults age 16 and older. Attendees should bring a portable device with WiFi capabilities.
Mandala Painting will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, for adults age 16 and older. Space is limited, and registration is required. There is a materials fee, payable at the door.
A Drop-in Craft event will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. People of all ages are invited to stop by the library to create a craft.
The Young Readers' Club will meet on Thursday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m. Students in grades three to five will explore "The Penderwicks" by Jeanne Birdsall.
A Spotted Lanternfly Information Session will be held on May 30 at 6:30 p.m. Adults age 16 and older will learn about the invasive species.
