Terre Hill Days Scheduled In Park

For John Styer, one of the organizers of Terre Hill Days, planning the yearly event involves mixing beloved traditional activities with a few newer items. "We try to keep things exciting and fresh, while (retaining) the popular (activities)," said Styer.

This year's Terre Hill Days will be held in the Terre Hill Park, 210 Lancaster Ave., Terre Hill, on Thursday through Sunday, July 18 through 21.

Terre Hill Days will open on July 18 at 5 p.m. with rides, games, and food. Sneakers the Clown will be on-site at 6 p.m., and local jugglers the DKers will entertain at 7 p.m. Local music night will continue with the Den and Terry Duo playing a variety of music at 6:30 p.m. and the Glenn Miller One Man Band at 8:30 p.m. "The one-man band plays accordion, trumpet, harmonica, trombone, keyboard (and more)," noted Styer.

On Friday, July 19, the pie eating contest will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by the classic car cruise at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., Dan Emrey, who grew up in the Maple Grove area, will be back to play with his local friends as The Dan Emrey Band. "They play mostly classic rock," commented Styer.

On Saturday, July 20 the ELANCO Library will hold the Shoe-Fly 5-mile race at 8 a.m. An a la carte breakfast will be held at the pavilion at 9 a.m., and an arts and crafts fair featuring local handmade items will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Games, rides, and food stands will open at 11 a.m.

Entertainment on July 20, will begin at 1 p.m. when John Collins will stroll the park with his accordion. The Outhouse Races will also begin on the grass in the park at 1 p.m. Outhouse teams may register up until shortly before the races begin.

Dusty Fender will perform on the side stage at 2 p.m., and at 3:30 p.m., an airplane will drop sweets from the sky for a candy scramble. Along with candy, children who take part in the scramble will find coupons from vendors, Christmas in the Park coupons, and free tickets to that same event. The tug of war will be held at 4:30 p.m., and Matt Cadabra will perform illusions at 6 p.m.

Glen Shelton, who hails from Virginia, will sing a mix of pop, country, and gospel on the main stage at 7 p.m. Shelton's performance will be followed by a fireworks display. "Our fireworks are all aerial," stated Styer.

On July 21, a church service will be held in the park at 10:30 a.m. Child care for small children will be provided during the service. A community picnic will be held at noon. Terre Hill Days will provide hot dogs and a beverage, and attendees are invited to bring a salad, hot dish, or dessert to share. The pavilion will be open for food items that need to be refrigerated or to plug in crockpots. Entertainment during the picnic will be provided by the Martin Sisters Band, which will begin playing at noon. According to Styer, the band members play fiddles, guitar, and bass and sing a mix of Western swing, 1940s tunes, and jazz music. "They're very good," said Styer.
