Wesley Network Center, 221 W. Fourth St., Quarryville, offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. The classes, which began on Oct. 3, cover conversation, pronunciation, reading and writing.
The free classes are for all adults age 18 and older who would like to learn English as a second language. Based on the current students, there is a beginners' class; however, intermediate and advanced classes may be added as needs arise. The classes are ongoing, and students may join at any point.
These classes are an outreach of Wesley Main Campus and La Cosecha, a bilingual Wesley Network Campus. Both churches are in the Quarryville area, while the classes themselves are held in town in the same building as the coffee shop on West Fourth Street.
All teachers are unpaid volunteers under the direction of Mallory Rutledge, a Spanish teacher at Solanco High School. Volunteers as well as students are welcome. They do not need to know another language or have teaching experience; they just need to be willing to serve and learn. For those who are not able to help on Thursdays, there are other opportunities available in roles such as conversation partners or prayer partners.
For additional information, readers may contact Rutledge at malloryjrutledge@gmail.com or Jalexa Merced at 610-335-6911.
