Esports Tournament Held

The Emerald Foundation in Lancaster hosted its February Esports Extravaganza tournament on Feb. 22 and 23. Students from central Pennsylvania high schools competed in Overwatch and League of Legends.

Teams attended from Bishop McDevitt High School, La Academia: The Partnership Charter School, Manheim Township High School, Conrad Weiser High School, Penn Manor High School, Lancaster Catholic High School, Stone Independence School, Conestoga Valley High School, Ephrata High School, and Achievement House Cyber Charter School.

For Overwatch, Manheim Township High School was the grand champion. Bishop McDevitt High School placed second and Conestoga Valley High School placed third. Conrad Weiser High School was the grand champion for League of Legends, with Bishop McDevitt High School in second place and Achievement House Cyber Charter School in third place. The Emerald Foundation provided gift cards to each player on the first- through third-place teams.

The Emerald Foundation, in strategic partnership with North America Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF), brings clubs that focus on the academic benefits of esports to high schools nationally. The mission of NASEF and the Emerald Foundation's esports efforts is to provide opportunities for all students to use esports as a platform to acquire skills that are necessary to thrive in work and in life. Through esports, students may gain hard skills such as technology fluency, problem solving skills, and math skills, as well as soft skills such as leadership, communication and collaboration abilities.
