Essay Contest Winners Announced

AMVETS Post 22 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Hanover held its annual Americanism essay contest, which encouraged students to write an essay in 500 words or fewer on the theme "Why Should You Say 'Thank You' to a Veteran?"

Kennard-Dale High School sophomore Maggie Scarborough won first place at the local level and second place at the state level. Kennard-Dale junior Josh Amberman placed first at the local and state levels. At the local level, junior Bri Miller won second place and Justin Bryant won third place. All winners received a certificate, read their essays at the awards program, and received cash prizes of varying amounts.

In addition to the essay contest on Americanism, the AMVETS held its Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse (AADAA) contest for students in grades nine through 12. The theme was "There Is No Use for Drug Abuse."
